Okay, so I started this blog with…well, a thought. Being totally new to the idea of a blog, I had (read: still have) no idea of where I wanted to go with it, how to do it, or even what to do with it. You see, I am a forty-something who (when it comes to computers) is not very savvy. Actually, writing that I’m not very savvy implies a little knowledge, whereas I have none. Sure, I know how to operate a computer (i.e., turn it on, look things up on the Internet, etc.), but beyond that I am lost, and when it comes to creating a website or a blog — forget it.
Enter WordPress. Let me clarify, WordPress.COM. With this site, even I was able to do something and get it on the web (miracles never cease), but is this where I really want to go? I have a domain name (fosterpack.com) and wanted to do something with that name. I had already signed up with HostGator to host my new site, but as I researched how to actually create a website, I became more intrigued by the thought of a blog. After looking more into WordPress, I realized there is also WordPress.ORG, on which I could use (my already paid for) HostGator plan to host fosterpack.com. Excited with what I’d already been able to do on WordPress.COM, I quickly jumped to its .org brother only to once again realize my lack of computer skills. Building a blog in WordPress.ORG is nowhere as easy as it is on the .com site, at least that’s how it seems to me. Am I missing something, or is this the actual case? I mean, what is CSS, anyway? I am computer stupid once again (sigh). Oh well, at least I’ve made it this far.
One last thought about this blog. A lot of stuff on here is random, as I was creating my “posts” partly to experiment and learn how things work and partly out of the excitement to see that something I created was actually on the web. It wasn’t until a few people “liked” one of my posts (that was nothing more than a few random thoughts) that I realized people may actually see this stuff. So, please excuse what may seem random and bear with me as I find myself in this new world called the Internet. Oh, I’ve seen it from the outside sure, but it looks a lot different from the inside. Also, if you have any tips you’d like to share for a newborn blogger stumbling his way through this odd new world (including any tips for creating a blog on WordPress.ORG), please let me know, thanks.
